By 400 BC, the Ancient Greeks had realised the benefits of essential oils and invented the distillation process. Hippocrates argued that the body should be treated as whole. From this thought process, aromatherapy derives its holistic approach.

Fast forward to 1910, French perfumer and chemist Rene Maurice Gattefosse discovers that the body is able to absorb small amounts of essential oils. By the 1950s, massage therapists were routinely using essential oils around the world. Since then, essential oils have become key to holistic wellness and healing.
